At Capital Building Contractors, we love a challenge, and this ground floor extension and renovation was just that. From first engagement with the client’s design brief, we were excited to see what was possible with the space available, on this corner block in Malvern East.

The brief

We designed a modern, yet simple space that embodied our client’s personality and needs for their young and growing family.

Once the design was finalised, Capital Building Contractors managed the pre-construction activities, including Planning Permissions, Engineering – everything needed to receive a Building Permit and start work on site. The construction programme was straight forward and smooth. As the plan was to extend out the back, our clients were able to stay living in the home and save on renting elsewhere – a big win for anyone’s budget and something we are open to accommodating wherever possible. The construction programme ran for a total of 6 months, which is typical for a medium sized extension project.

The results

Our clients’ key driver was to increase space in their kitchen and living area. To really transform their home into the perfect place to entertain. The selected finishings, as assisted with by our in-house Selections Manager, really tops off the homes aesthetic. Particularly the kitchen. Simple and elegant with striking copper handles and secret, built-in bar, stone benchtops, induction cooktop and open walk-in pantry. It is light and wonderful. Enhancing the spaces open and natural feeling, are the use of solar tubes, that let in extra natural light. Another one of our favourite features are the 2.6m high by 5.9m wide, double glazed, hardwood timber stacker doors, transforming the space into flexible, alfresco living. The clients, with their own flare for design have furnished the space immaculately, resulting in a refined and elegant look.
