Mr. and Mrs. K of Camberwell had a clear idea of their perfect extension and renovation. They approached Capital Building to help them achieve their dream home. We could also see that this extension was going to evolve into something special.
After speaking with our designer, the owners were happy to learn he could translate their vision into a real world design, within their budget.
Consequent to some consultations and some redrafts incorporating the owners requirements and lifestyle needs, a new home of generous proportion’s and flowing spaces was designed.
A further and important part of the owners brief was to integrate the new works, unobtrusively, in order to maintain a 1920s era bungalow style and feel.
Some of the specific finishes required by the Ks were the recycled hardwood flooring, roofing, fretwork, veranda detailing, window sills, brackets and other period details. These requests required specialised and extra attention and care from Capital Builders’ various, highly skilled trades.
The existing single story house had a rear extension which was partly re-used but the layout needed to be completely revised to suit the orientation of the property.
The kitchen, meals, family room and study were designed to face north into the rear yard, with the addition of a generous veranda to provide shade yet still letting in light. There is also a formal dining, lounge/library with master bedroom and vast walk through robe to a generous ensuite.
Upstairs are three double bedrooms, a rumpus room and a large bathroom.
Clearly this is a complete make over, with no surface left untouched. Restumping, straightening of old floors, walls, cladding, ceilings, doors and finishes were re -worked to obtain this new home finish. The result speaks for itself. This ninety year old home is now set to last another ninety years.
